Young Investigator's Award 2007

Award Overview

One of the goals of the National Education Alliance for Borderline Personality Disorder (NEA-BPD) is to promote research on borderline personality disorder (BPD), and of major importance is the support of young investigators. The Young Investigator’s Award (YIA) is sponsored by NEA-BPD, NARSAD and the Borderline Personality Disorder Research Foundation (BPDRF) and is designed both to encourage investigation in BPD and to reward excellent research in this area. The recipient will be invited to present his or her research at a plenary session of the NEA-BPD 6th Annual Family Perspectives on Borderline Personality Disorder Conference (supported in part by NIMH grant R13MH068456-04), to be held at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York on October 20-21, 2007 as well as receive a monetary award.


Criteria

Submissions need to be original research studies on BPD.

Applicants must have received their terminal degree (Ph.D. or comparable doctoral degree) or have completed required residency training (M.D.) within five years of the submission date (i.e., June 2002 or later). Submissions must be original works completed within this period of time, and may include: a) reprint of a published research paper; 2) preprint of a research paper accepted for publication, along with a copy of the letter of acceptance; 3) other journal-length manuscripts describing a research study. The applicant must be the 1st author (co-authors are acceptable) on the submitted research study manuscript.


Review Process

A committee of senior BPD investigators will review applications. The Committee Chairperson is Alan E. Fruzzetti, Ph.D., Director of Research to NEA-BPD.


The Application Package Should Include:

  1. Manuscript (Preprints and reprints are acceptable.)
  2. Three letters of recommendation that include a description of the applicant’s achievements vis-à-vis BPD research and potential for a successful career in research in borderline personality disorder.*
  3. The applicant’s CV
